Piraeus Bank

Headquartered in Athens, the branch network of Greece’s Piraeus Bank S.A. also covers a number of Eastern Mediterranean countries and Southeast Europe. Founded in 1916, the bank is currently one of the leading banking houses on the domestic market. Towards the end of 2010, Piraeus was Greece’s No. 4 financial institution serving 11% of the credit market.

PPF Group acquired a 5.72% interest in Piraeus Bank S.A. in April 2011. Jiří Šmejc, a shareholder of PPF Group N.V., also became a member of the bank’s Board of Directors. The acquisition is in accordance with PPF Group’s strategy focused on expanding its activity in the banking sector of Central and Southeast Europe.
