Today morning, PPF Group’s majority shareholder Petr Kellner met with the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Andrej Babiš, and Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček, at the building of the Office of the Government. The meeting took place in response to the crisis surrounding the delivery of protective medical equipment; to aid in the effort, PPF Group offered to donate approximately 120 tonnes of medical equipment to the Government.
PPF Group, through its biotechnology company Sotio, already offered help to the Ministry of Health last week and, after agreeing with Deputy Minister Prymula, purchased 20,000 protective masks and delivered them to the Czech Republic; they are currently being donated to general practitioners around the country.
The Group just confirmed to the Government that it has purchased 100 million Czech crowns’ worth of personal protective equipment from Spain and China through its company, Home Credit, and that this will be handed over free of charge to the state on Monday. The donation includes:
- 1.8 million surgical masks
- 1.7 million N95 respirators
- 20,000 Copan Flocked Swabs
- 30,000 Liferiver testing kits
- 10,000 Wondfo testing kits
These medical items will be ready for gradual delivery to the Czech Republic on the evening of Monday, 16 March 2020. Transportation will be arranged by the Government of the Czech Republic, which today is the only entity that can obtain the requisite permits for exporting such large quantities of medical material from China.
