The Kellner Family Foundation donated over CZK 97 million to philanthropic projects in 2014
    06/04/2015

The Kellner Family Foundation (KFF) has published its annual report for 2014. KFF invested over CZK 97 million during the year, 10% more than in 2013, in programs primarily dedicated to supporting education, science, and research. Since it was founded six years ago, the family foundation of Mrs. Renáta Kellnerová and Mr. Petr Kellner has provided more than CZK 355 million for these social purposes. Most of the funds are channeled into support for children and young people from socially disadvantaged backgrounds.

“I am very proud of all those whom we have had the opportunity to sponsor in 2014: Open Gate grammar school students, who excelled in the International Baccalaureate examinations; successful graduates of both Czech and foreign universities; teachers and principals of public elementary schools; and Czech scientists. All of them have demonstrated that the contributions granted by our foundation are good investments,” said Mrs. Renáta Kellnerová, Chairwoman of The Kellner Family Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

The Kellner Family Foundation’s core programs include grants for students of the OPEN GATE grammar school; the UNIVERSITIES project, which helps Czech students acquire knowledge and develop skills at prestigious international and Czech universities; and the HELPING SCHOOLS SUCCEED project, which is aimed at improving the quality of teaching at public elementary schools. In science and research, KFF sponsors Czech researchers with its SCIENCE program.

    • In 2014, OPEN GATE grammar school provided education to 202 students, 97 of whom received need-based grants from KFF. Eight sponsored children came from children’s homes; seven children from foster care; one child from the Klokánek child care facility; 33 from broken homes, and the rest from families whose socio-economic status would have prevented them from being able to provide their children with a standard of education that matches the children’s talent and determination to learn.
    • During the 2014/2015 school year, KFF is supporting 57 students under the UNIVERSITIES project. Thanks to KFF’s grants, these students were able to go to prestigious institutions such as the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, Yale University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as other universities mainly based in the United Kingdom, the U.S., and the Czech Republic. KFF has allocated grants to as many as 89 university students since it began six years ago.
    • Approximately 320 teachers at 50 public elementary schools received support under the HELPING SCHOOLS SUCCEED project in 2014. Thanks to these teachers, in cooperation with dozens of experts in various fields, KKF was able to support more than 5,500 students.
